{"id":1852,"date":"2025-11-15T19:19:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-15T18:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayweiner.me\/blog\/?p=1852"},"modified":"2026-02-17T09:09:59","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T08:09:59","slug":"la-traviata-teatro-real","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayweiner.me\/blog\/music-diary\/la-traviata-teatro-real\/","title":{"rendered":"La Traviata &#8211; Teatro Real"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>La Traviata<\/em> (the one who went astray), probably Verdi&#8217;s best-known opera and one of the most performed ever, was staged at the Teatro Real in Willy Decker&#8217;s iconic modern production, which could not be performed in 2020 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.&nbsp;Thousands of people followed one of the performances live from cinemas. The performance was excellent, and <a href=\"https:\/\/adelazaharia.com\">Adela Zaharia<\/a> was extraordinary as <em>Violetta Val\u00e9ry<\/em>, the main role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My favourite musical passage of the opera by far is when Alfredo&#8217;s father comes to tell Violeta Alfredo can&#8217;t be with her. He tells her to cry and let it all out while she begs him for another chance, and it&#8217;s a beautiful duet, but my favourite part is simply the four notes Giorgio sings at the start of the section accompanied by a brief sort of counterpoint in the orchestra &#8220;piangi, piangi&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Music&nbsp;by<\/strong>&nbsp;Giuseppe Verdi
