Since September I’ve been rehearsing for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with BLOC, the show dates being 20th – 23rd of November. I’ve worked with BLOC before, so it’s been nice coming back to a familiar environment.

I will perform Charlie, the title role, and am extremely excited to do so.

One thing that surprised me was how genuinely good the music was. part of me was expecting a lot of it to be relatively cheesy stereotypical musical theater stuff, but because it draws a lot of influence from various styles and other famous shows, the music is a lot more complex and interesting than one might expect, and is extremely satisfying to listen to and to sing.

my experience with the rehearsals has been really great. Rachael Bateman, the director has a very clear vision of what she wants the show to be and is very good at directing us into how she wants us. i have, however had to miss a fair few rehearsals due to unforeseen double bookings with rehearsals for other current projects, which has thrown some spikes on the road, but I’m very lucky to have a cover (Sam Romero) who can sub in for me when I’m missing, and relay all the information and blocking i missed back to me afterwards.
