One of the main pieces in our choir’s repertoire right now is a medley of Queen songs, ‘Queen Forever’, arranged by our choir director Benoît Giaux, and choreographed by our movement coach Geoffrey Grumelli. It’s written in two separate parts, and we’ve performed both at a few concerts in April and May 2026. There’s also a proper studio audio recording planned for the end of June, and a video recording in September. Both will go up on the choir’s official YouTube page of the Youth Choir of La Monnaie once they’re done.

I sing the alto part. The cool thing about this arrangement is how the melody gets passed around between the voice parts. At any given moment you’re just as likely to be singing the main tune as a harmony or a backing vocal. The altos actually get a lot of the melody here, often shared with the tenors and basses, which doesn’t usually happen — altos don’t normally get that much, so it’s really nice.

The medley works particularly well, in my opinion, because the original Queen’s songs are written largely in a vaguely operatic, choral style already, so it transposes very well into a literal choir setting. Especially Bohemian Rhapsody basically has choir bits all the way through, so it is easy to take those harmonies and apply them to a full choir. There are also some really cool dissonances and jazzy chords in there, which makes it fun to sing.

The two videos below are part one and part two of the medley, and have been recorded from the audience at the concert we gave on 31st May 2026 at the Église Saint-Julien, Auderghem, Brussels.
