Intolleranza 1960 is an opera written by Luigi Nono in 1960. I was invited by my friend Peter Tantsits (who played my father in Fanny and Alexander) to come to Ghent to see Intolleranza in which he was playing the role of the protagonist.
This opera is extremely unconventional in that, instead of having the players on stage and the audience neatly in their seats, the entire (quite limited) audience is brought onto the stage, and made to watch as the action takes place all around them, as well as brought into it as a sort of part of the story. The performers made sure to interact directly with as many audience members as possible, often singing directly in our faces, or beckoning us to move to certain parts of the stage.
I enjoyed the opera thoroughly, and even went twice to see how different my experience would be if i moved around in different ways.
